2012: We'll Get There

Tue, 01/03/2012 - 01:16 pm PST by Maria DeSimone

It’s going to be a great year -- I just know it. As a matter of fact, in my personal Astrology, 2012 could go down in history as one of the best years of my life. There’s just one tiny rub that will affect you, me and the rest of the world. It has to do with Mars, the planet of action and energy -- the planet of initiation and drive.

You see, Mars will be retrograde from January 23 until April 13. Astrologer Lynn Koiner says that “During Mars retrograde, whoever initiates loses.” I have to say, based on my observation of this cycle, she’s right. I guess that means none of us can expect to start the year off with a bang.

But please, don’t let that discourage you! Mars retrograde cycles might not be the best time to start new endeavors, but it can be an extremely valuable cycle. Astrologer Mary Shea teaches us the perfect way to use Mars retrograde cycles. She says:

“You go back over situations (either in your mind or in reality), doing things again and again while making corrections in the way you handle events. While Mars is retrograde, you will be reviewing the way you handle anger, self-defense, self-motivation and sexual relationships… outward anger or conflicts may not be appropriate.”

If you’re ruled by Mars (Aries Sun or rising) or co-ruled by Mars (Scorpio Sun or rising) then you will be especially sensitive to Mars retrograde cycles. But the planet of action being in “nap” mode will surely have an effect on all of us.

In the past I have been forced to initiate important projects during Mars retrograde cycles, and I can tell you from personal experience they don’t ever sizzle the way you believe they should have. In addition to this, Mars rules surgery and surgeons, so if you have any elective surgery planned you will be better off waiting for a strong, direct Mars. Of course, if you have a major surgery for health reasons that cannot be re-scheduled you must have it regardless of the Astrology.

I have an uncle who battled bladder cancer a few years back. He went under the knife while Mars and Mercury were retrograde and I knew there would be complications, but this was a lifesaving procedure and the Astrology of the moment simply didn’t matter. He did suffer from an infection and had a much longer healing process, but ultimately he beat his cancer. So again, please don’t be terrified if you must have a surgical procedure during Mars retrograde. Just plan more time for recovery since your energy will not be at its best.

I share this with you in the hopes that you can better understand how to utilize the energy coming our way for the next several weeks. Mars will be retrograde in the sign of Virgo this time -- all about work, health and service. It is a great time to refine your schedule and routine and to go back to assessing how you’re using your energy to best serve your work and health.

I fully expect to use this cycle to go back to some work projects I have already started and refine them, perfect them. I suggest you do the same. I also have noticed a major back-track in my health and fitness routine, and I plan to use this cycle to help me focus my will power again.

Like I said, 2012 is going to be a great year in many ways. We’re not starting with a bang, but we will start with a plan. That’s Virgo’s style. Work it.
