There's an incredible urge to try new things and to do them as quickly as possible this month. On April 1 impulsive Mars enters Aries, the fiery first sign of the zodiac that is not know for its patience. The month begins with the Sun in Aries, as well, which signals the rising force of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and a desire to forge into unfamiliar territory. The energy and instinct to be a brave pioneer encourages innovation and spurs a spirit of adventure. Yet there are markers along the way that suggest that putting the pedal to the metal could be dangerous and even destructive at times.
The key astrological indicator of a need for some restraint is Mercury retrograde. The communication planet turned backwards on March 30 in Aries and won't resume forward motion until April 23. Mercury retrograde is always a time when we need to be extra careful to avoid mistakes and misstatements.
The impulse to act without premeditation is especially strong on April 3. It's the day of the New Moon in Aries, one of the most energizing lunar events of the year. Generous Jupiter's union with this Sun-Moon conjunction adds vision and optimism, perhaps over optimism. Active Mars joins Uranus on the same day, bringing down lightning bolts of urgency and excitement from the sky. This revolutionary pair is unwilling to compromise or slow down to accommodate anyone or anything that stands in the way of progress.
Idealistic Neptune begins a four-month foray into its spiritual home sign Pisces on April 4 that's a preview of its longer stay there from February 3, 2012-March 30, 2025. We'll get a glimpse of the faith and fantasy of this inspiring transit until August 4. The tempo starts to slow on April 20 when the Sun enters earthy Taurus for its annual visit to the Garden of Eden sign. The peace and tranquility we're anticipating, though, may not be as obvious as usual since Taurus' ruling planet Venus enters Aries to continuing stirring the social pot and arousing new desires as of April 20. Venus' conjunction with Uranus on April 22 can provoke relationship risks and interests in new flavors of fun. On April 23 Mercury turns direct, which should help us get back on track with systems, communication and travel matters. Still, we can expect the heat of shifting personal and collective tides to remain relatively high all month.
