When it comes to professional matters, no planet is more important than Mercury. It is the symbol of commerce and communication and a key player in describing how we see and think. Mercury turns retrograde this month, beginning its backward cycle on December 10 where it will continue its reversal through the zodiac until December 30. This marks a period when messages tend to be muddled or lost, information misunderstood, travel complicated and technology temperamental. This is a good time, though, for backtracking and following up on incomplete tasks and checking back in on recent contacts. Going forward, however, can be more difficult if we don't double check data and triple check facts. Slow down and make sure that you understand what others are telling you and that they are clear about whatever you say.
Being alert is especially important on December 13 when Mercury joins aggressive Mars and petulant Pluto. Intensity is high and conflict may be bubbling just below the surface. You may scratch an old wound or feel attacked yourself, which is not the best experience these transits offer. It is, on the other hand, a great day to clean up unfinished business from the past that can create such a high level of efficiency that new energy is freed up to tackle tough problems. Having something productive to bite into is preferable to getting entangled in a power struggle.
The Sun's entry into businesslike Capricorn on December 21 sets the stage for more constructive days ahead but it probably won't be until after the holidays that ambitious new projects can be effectively advanced.
