Single Parent? No Problem!

Avoid the single parenting pitfalls of every horoscope sign

by Jessica Hulett

Libra (Sept. 23 - Oct. 22)

This sign is such a diplomat that their kids may feel like they have two parents balancing out each other instead of one. Libras are whizzes at compromise and cooperation, and because they're such sticklers for etiquette, they have the most polite kids on the block.

Parenting pitfall: the Libra indecisiveness

Because this sign can weigh all sides of an issue, they sometimes have a hard time making a firm decision. Try to be consistent when it comes to rules so that kids won't walk all over you or be confused about boundaries.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 - Nov. 21)

Kids of single Scorpio parents will never doubt that their mom or dad loves them. In addition to their intense, unconditional love for their children, Scorpios are also hyper-intuitive, so they understand deeper feelings and problems that may not always be spoken aloud.

Parenting pitfall: the Scorpio manipulation

Tricking your kids into doing what you want them to do may be an easy shortcut -- especially for a time-and-resource-strapped single parent -- but it could backfire and cause resentment. Emotionally honest familial relationships are much healthier for everyone involved.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21)

As a single parent, this sign is optimistic and funny, creating a house full of positive energy. They instill an excitement in their well-traveled kids about the world around them and offer unique life experiences.

Parenting pitfall: the Sagittarian permissiveness

Because this sign is all about freedom and self-discovery, they want their kids to find their own way in the world. Kids need firm boundaries to learn what's expected of them, though, so give them something to rebel against.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 - Jan. 19)

Even if they're flying solo, the Goat parent will ensure that his or her kids are generously provided for. These folks are mature, responsible parents, and children will know that their mom or dad can always be depended on.

Parenting pitfall: the Capricorn workaholism

This sign can get so focused on making ends meet that they forget to spend quality time with their kids. Leave your work at the office and leave nights open for family fun.

Aquarius (January 20 - Feb. 18)

Even though this sign may be parenting solo, their house will still be the favorite hangout for their kids' friends. To an outsider, the Aquarius parent may seem irresponsible, but they're actually quite stable -- they just think kids should be allowed to express themselves, be it with purple hair or ukulele lessons.

Parenting pitfall: the Aquarius intellectualism

This sign has a hard time with feelings, and without another parent around to dole out affection, kids may feel emotionally neglected. Make an effort to tell them you love them every day.

Pisces (Feb. 19 - March 20)

From a Pisces parent, kids learn how to follow their dreams. These nurturing folks have an unending imagination, and can spend hours creating magical worlds with their children.

Parenting pitfall: the Pisces escapism

Without another parent around to inject a little reality into daily life, basic day-to-day tasks may go undone. Kids need to know that there's a time for dreaming, and a time for doing the dishes.
